Alternative Spring Break 2008

Spend your Spring Break working for social justice

Rebuilding New Orleans from the Grassroots

Hurricane Katrina was one of the biggest catastrophes in United States history, and one of the largest failures of government to aid its citizens in crisis.  Today the calamity continues, as people struggle to rebuild their lives in a city that will take decades to recover.  Despite the scale of the disaster, however, New Orleaneans and thousands of volunteers are working to restore this vibrant center of American culture.  We will work directly with local groups to rebuild New Orleans.  We will give support to our Gulf Coast neighbors who are struggling to return to and remain in their ravaged communities.  We will learn about the meaning of community and mutual support, and the regional identity that makes New Orleans unique.
