> 1. Locate, xerox, read, and make careful >notes, on AT LEAST FOUR >scholarly studies of your topic.
Located a bunch and xeroxed them from NYPL on Saturday... expensive PITA, but done and I'm in the process of reading them.
> 2. Make sure that AT LEAST TWO of them are >from scholarly >articles, in scholarly journals.
Not a problem.
> Make sure that AT LEAST TWO of them are >from scholarly BOOKS.
Problem: I've not been able to locate any of the MLA suggested books. I have ordered them from Sprague, but they suggest a one to four week wait. May be available at Rutgers but I still can't connect to there and don't anticipate time to visit until next weekend at the earliest.
> 3. Read, and make careful notes on, AT >LEAST TWO scholarly BOOK >REVIEWS of each of the books. > > Choose the reviews from the SCHOLARLY BOOK >REVIEW INDEXES.
This requires me to accomplish the latter part of (2.) which is problematic.
> 4. Make PHOTOCOPIES of TWO of your four >scholarly studies, AND >TWO of the book reviews. > > Bring these to class. I want to see them. >If you fail to do so, >you will get a zero for this assignment.
See above.
> 5. Email me, by the due date for this >assignment, the following >information: > > a. bibliographical references for the two >scholarly studies AND >the two book reviews you will bring to class. > > Use the same format you have used before; >Last name of author, >First name. "Title of article or chapter of >book". _Title of book or >journal" (volume and year of publication of >journal/Place: publisher, >year of publication of book). Page numbers.
Will do except as explained above.
> b. Your notes on the TWO scholarly >journals/chapters, and the TWO >book reviews, that you have photocopied; read; >and carefully studied.
It's not my normal work habit to make notes when I have photocopies I can mark up. I tend to work by throwing books and articles around my computer while I am drafting things and then cutting and pasting my draft into a final form... I guess I'm going to have to try doing things a tad bit differently. -- Which means taking the time to type notes when I can be getting on with reading other materials. >:(
