I don't know if anyone bothered to look at WebFerret software (downloadable from download.com, TUCOWS, and zdnet.com)... You may recall I recommended it as a way of searching multiple engines for web pages.

Well, the creators, FerretSoft have six other search applications available (in both freeware and professional versions). Perhaps the most important for our uses is InfoFerret which will find various source materials for whatever topic... data sources include booksellers, newspapers, magazines, television stations, associated press... Very fast and easy to use.

The second most significant is NewsFerret which searchs Newsgroups for relevant messages and then makes the results you select available to read.

Other programs available from them search for IRC channels, Phone numbers, files, and E-mail addresses.

(Less interestingly and importantly is they also have a seperate toolbar program you can use to launch these programs... but you can live without that and if you run IE 4.0 you can just throw them straight on your quicklaunch bar.)
