My primary home page is:
http://www.fortunecity.com/westwood/naked/132/index.html
A few things I've discovered while creating this site:
(1) Windows 95/98 allows file names to be very long, include spaces, and include upper case letters. Do <I>NOT</I> take advantage of this. Keep your file names eight characters long, no spaces, all lower case. Some browsers, some servers, and some HTML editors have problems dealing with those "features".
(2) Windows 95/98 uses .htm as the default extention for web pages. I recommend using "Save as..." to make sure the extention is always .html for the same reason.
(3) Many browsers will use "index.html" as a default for your home page, such that someone who goes to the page may not require the specification of the filename. You may wish to follow this convention.
(4) Many modern word processors (including Corel WordPerfect 8 and MicroSoft Word 97) have some very good internal HTML support allowing for WYSIWYG editing, including graphic support. In many respects, these editors can be superior to using dedicated HTML editors.
(5) Of all the HTML editors I've looked at, I like HomeSite the best except for one stupid little thing that I can't explain: There is no easy way to make a hyperlink with HomeSite (or if there is I have not found it)... almost all other HTML editors (and word processors) seem to allow very easy hyperlink creation... HomeSite however offers extremely good WYSIWYG, local browsing, and a very good user interface. I'd recommend using it in conjunction with a modern word processor (such as Word Perfect and Word) as a good way to make lovely web pages. HotDog is another good editor, but unless I'm doing something wrong (I probably am), I can't seem to edit on the actual web pages and only on the source.
