My evaluation period of WS_FTP ran out so it was time to find a new FTP client. For those that care, the FTP client market seems to be among the most competitive, even if less notorious than the browser wars. Every time someone blinks and then hits up a popular site for winsock apps, you find a bunch of new and/or updated FTP clients which somebody is singing songs of praise for.
Well, today I decided to give FTP Voyager a trial (in another 30 days, I suppose it will be time for something else). FTP Voyager has all the best features of all the best FTP clients out there.
There are two standard FTP interfaces: The dual pane, such as WS_FTP classic and Cute_FTP use and the Windows Explorer type such as WS_FTP 6.0 and InterNet Neighborhood (and also supported by IE5.0 beta [which is out, seems stable, and flys!]) has... Well, with FTP Voyager, you get both at once.
FTP Voyager gives you five panes:
The top two are your remote directory tree and current remote directory.
The middle two are the local directory tree and current local directory.
The bottom shows all incoming messages from the FTP Site.
---
Another good thing about this FTP interface is that it will show the correct icons for all reguistered file types on both the local and remote directories (as opposed to merely folders, binaries, and text files as shown by most programs).
---
The other great feature about FTP Voyager is it comes with a comprehensive FTP "phonebook" that allows you to sort your FTP sites into folders and subfolders. It comes with a large number of preset sites. You can also add your own and import from most popular FTP programs.
If it wasn't for the fact that I'm broke and I know that something better will probably be out in the next 30 days, I'd say it's well worth the $40.00 they ask for reguistration....
