It is unbelievable how the church under the pope finds it acceptacble to use the image of Jesus as a tool to support their personal gains. They take an image of Jesus with a purse and manipulate this scene into proof for their right to be wealthy and powerful. This, in turn, allows the pope to declare heretics and for them, death. I find Eco's William much more admirable than Gui or any in his party. For this reason it seems that Eco sides with the people of poverty rather than the ruling powerful pontiff.
