Perhaps the churches modern foray into the political arena reflects some kind of misgiuded evangalism(not to be confused with "TV evangalist" crackpots". Politics and the church have many similarities. They both attempt to giude (or force) the public morally, financially, and intellectually. The most glaring difference is that politics makes no claim to be forwarding the will of a divine being. That leaves room for quite a bit of hypocrisy within the church. Of course some people seek out the kind of paternal giudance the church offers. If the order of things can be defined than so much the easier. The church utilizes politics in this country the way many goverments utilize religion in other countries. Both can be used as unfortunate tools for the other.
