I personally do not think that the church should be involved in political decisions but obviously they were, and they still probably are today. The church tries to instill the idea of living in poverty, but they own a lot of land and property and with these material possessions, comes a lot of political power. I do not think that the church is ready to give up these possessions and ability to make their political decisions.
