I think that the church represents a very hypocritical point of view concerning poverty. They encourage people to take a vow of poverty. Is this because they are trying to follow in the footsteps of Jesus, or are they simply trying to win the support of the people, who are for the most part, poor and simple commoners. These commoners are quick to follow heretics, because they are impoverished and want a better life. But by asking for a better life, they are questioning their place in the world, which is questioning God, which makes them heretics. The commoners are supposed to be happy in their lifes, but they want more, and by wanting more, they are considered heretics. I think that the church tries to talk about living in poverty, but they still possess a lot of material possessions so they contain a lot of political power.
