Upon re-reading chapter 6 of Piers, I began to realize how similar the struggle of the peasants in the fourteenth century are to certain workers around the world today. Many companies in the United States purposely create factories in third world countries and hire only women and children to have cheap labor and not have to worry about their dangerous working conditions. Both Nike and Disney are notorious for this practice. Piers and his peers are also exploited by the upper class. It is just as outrageous a practice for the rich to assume that they can treat the rest of the people like animals. I read chapter 6 as a politcal protest literature for that time.
