I completely agree with all of your sentiments. Your point about hunger being used as a weapon I found very interesting, as that practice by the government/authorities is continued in certain places now. Unfortunetly, workers around the world presently suffer through similar circumstances as Piers and his fellow workers. Your comment on religion was important as well, for the Bible helps to keep fear in the hearts of people and suppresses the urge to revolt against the aristocracy.
