I think that the treatment of the poor seemed very unfair. The aristocrats were put upon a pedastool and looked up on, when they really treated everyone very poorly. I can understand why they did not welcome a monetary economy. It took power away from them, once the poor struggled to get some money. Langland portrays these sruggling working class peasants as lazy people wo do nothing but drink. It is a very biased viewpoint and one that the would appeal to the aristocratic society.
