The one thing that really bothered me about the movie is that Adso was not always called that name throughout the whole movie, whereas in the book I don’t recall him ever being called anything other than that. The name that William also called him was Adgil. The other part of the movie that also really diverted my attention was that when William and Adso were in the library for the first time and Berengar stole the book, Aristotle Poetics, the glasses seemed to be taken by accident. In the book it was made to be as if the glasses were to be stolen on purpose so William would not be able to figure out the mystery. Also in the novel the disappearance of the glasses was a great trauma to William which was also not shown in the movie nor was the practice of making a new set of glasses. When Berengar was found it also bothered me that the bath was not covered with a lid like in the novel so it ruled out the drowning idea altogether. When the glasses were found in the novel it was after Berengar’s autopsy was done and they found them inside his cloak. This section on the movie I found to be greatly different than what is in the book. Majority of what was in the book was never put into the movie, I think that it would have taken quite a series to accomplish that.
