The film "The Name of the Rose" was a "fairly" accurate interpretation of the book, considering that it would be impossible to capture all the mystery and suspense that the novel did. Although the movie all but disreguarded any reference to poverty, and it's involvement with the church, the movie did present the theme of the novel, I think clearly enough, That information, depending on what stand-point one takes, can be devasting, or enlightening. Differences are bound to occur, yet this movie would have been 4 days long if the director concentrated on every espect of the novel. I personally would have liked to have seen the debate over poverty in the novel better illustrated in the film, yet unfortunately it wasn't a component the director wanted to concentrate on.
