I just remembered something. The opening credits state that the movie is a "palimpsest of Eco's novel." This confession of license and interpretation is a clever way of opening up discussion concerning proper interpretation. Like our discussions in class, the movie continues Adso's narrative, relating directly to our times through this note and the fact of modern cinema. It's a little murky. Any thoughts, guys?
