Yes I agree that there were numerous differences between the two, one in particular was the way Adso was presented. In the novel, be is seen as a rather intelligent and insightful young man. Yet in the movie he is more comparable to a dim, confused child. One more aspect that bothered me about the film, why on Earth would they change the ending and take out the confession scene? That was the best part of the book.
