When watching the movie Name of the Rose, you definitely get the main idea of the book. It summarizes the plot and you can actually the see the real images that you were conjuring up in you mind while you were reading the book. I agree with Lancito that the movie was centered on the mystery so it can sell to the audience. The movie didn't present some of the religious themes, which are an important aspect of the book. But it was really amazing you see how well the movie portrayed the location and description of the entire abbey. Also by watching the movie you can separate the names of the character and actually see how they portrayed as opposed to the book.
