I thought the confessional scene between William and Adso was one of importance, but in the novel, it seemed the opposite. In the book, the scene was more sincere and more of a repenance. William, seemed to shrug off the sinful act committed by Adso, which surprised me.

In the novel, the scene between Adso and the peasant girl was quite different from what I pictured in my mind before seeing the movie. I felt as though Adso was a victim of the girl's seduction. In the movie, however, Adso without hesitation gave into temptation, rather than been seduced by it. It is clear that Adso and the girl make love in the movie, but I can't agree with that aspect in the book.
