I competely agree with you when you say that Adso was portrayed much differently that what was expected. I expected Adso to be alittle older and much more intelligent. He really didn't any intelligence in his charater and the speaches he gave in the book that revealed his education, were left out in the movie. He merely reminded me of a young puppy that cannot do anything without its owner. Adso seemed perfectly happy being led around by a leash.
As far as the ending is concerned, I preferred the movie's ending to that of the novel's. I think it showed different levels of emotion, emotions that an author cannot capture within his readers through the use of words. I thought it was great when the peasants' revealed their hatred and animosity towards Bernardo by pushing over his carriage rather than help him. That was their revenge and I think they deserved the chance to seek that revenge.
