I agree with you on your comments. The poverty issue is brought up briefly along with other issues such as the history of laughter in the movie. These ideas are probably lost to many viewers not on their fault, but just for the fact they are not focused on as they are inthe book. When ever I read a book and then see the movie I am usually pretty disappointed. But then again if a movie where to incorporate every issue the book did and in great detail, it would probably be at least a day long and extremely boring.
