The history of the United States is one of brutality, deception, and fascism. this can be seen in the conditions of the towns of Cripple Creek, Telluride and other mining communities in the early 20th century where there existed a military police state in order to keep workers striking for fair treatment down. The Police and Military exist in order to enforce the interests of the owners, they enforce the laws made by the owners; they break laws for the owners. Owners cut wages to subsistence and force the workers to work longer hours under dangerous sometimes-deadly conditions to ensure a larger profit margin. When the workers strike, an army of deputized criminal pigs are called in. it is chattel slavery on a massive scale. There is only the illusion of freedom. The workers rent housing from the corporation that they work for, they buy their food for them, their electricity , their water and their alcohol(which was vehemently encouraged to dull the pain of an intolerable life). All of their wages are put right back into the corporation, so as it might as well have never existed at all. They live under the eye of any army of armed government thug pig overseers who would eagerly bash their sculls at the slightest signs of discontent. When workers become fed up and strike for what they are entitled to as human beings they are beaten down, locked in cages, blacklisted and murdered.(ch. 5)
