From what we have been taught about United States history up to this point, it is one of extreme violence, all which benefit the elite ruling class. With this in mind, should it come as a surprise to us what we are learning in LUS? I should hope it does, and this type of information is not to be expected.
In chapter 6, on page 175 the Lawrence strike is described. Is the National Guard necessary at a factory strike? What warrants dynamite to be planted near the strikers' headquarters? Why would the police shoot one of the strikers, and then place the blame on the two strike leaders? From the information given here, I am led to believe that the government was not interested in the rights of the working class, but rather of the ruling class. Time and time again we are showed how this system works, where the people with the money make all the rules. Why do we allow this to continue?
