After WWI, money began to accumulate in the hands of those who had mastered the art of manipulation, hate and the divide and conquer technique. The Ku Klux klan is a prime example of this. The hate group formulated their cause as being "100 percent American" and against trade unions, Roman Catholics, Jews and blacks.To earn membership into the klan, it cost $10 and by 1924, the hate organization had accumulated $45 million. Frederick Lewis Allen said it best: "Here was a chance to dress up the village bigot and let him be a Knight of the Invisible empire." Members of the Klan were so ignorant and blinded by hate that they didn't even realize the majority of the labor at that time was done by the people they were calling spies, saboteurs and a ton of racial slurs. The immigrants did the hardest work for the least pay and billions of dollars were made from their toil.
In 1929, the Great Depression began and continued for years. It destroyed the country leaving millions homeless and jobless. This epidemic spread to other countries as well such as Europe, Latin America, Asia and Africa. By 1932, hundreds of thousands of people from every age, race and political belief came together to fight against the Depression. They transformed America and formed the National Unemployed Council. It prevented evictions, increased refief allotments to millions, campaigned for public works and unemloyment insurence. The New Deal was introduced with the intention of relief, recovery and reform. F.D.R became world famous because he moved to meet the people's needs.
