I don't know if anyone has seen the film by the Coen Brothers, "O Brother, Where Art Thou?", but it is very similar to the beginning of Chapter 8, and pretty much what we have been talking about all semester. The film takes place during the Depression and follows a trio of escaped convicts searching for some "stolen loot". As they travel through the dustbowl of the American South and Midwest, their adventures expose the harsh realities of the average American worker at the time. Many had to turn to a life of crime JUST to survive, like Bonnie and Clyde or George "Babyface" Nelson. The most frightening reality of the film is its depiction of the KKK and how its power and reach infiltrated all forms of government offices.
