There is a fine line between being conservative and an outright racist and from what we have read throughout the semester, this line is blurred at convenience. I agree with Frank; racism, facism, hatred, opression, sexism and homophobia, all things the KKK display, are and have always been family values. In some way or another, one or all of these things have crept into our lives and thrown into our faces on some occasions. Frank's also right; the ones carrying out these values in force, the ones hiding underneath the bed sheets, are the mindless, inbred morons that are made fun of by Americans. These people truly exist and though they may not be as present as say, terrorists from the middle east (isn't that the pot calling the kettle black?), but they are still an underlying force in our national conscience.
There was a documentary on HBO a few weeks ago, one of those America Undercover things, and it was about how hate groups like the KKK have found a very convenient way to convey their message- the World Wide Web. A lot more people, including brainless, inbred morons, are going on line and accessing this message. More and more of them are taking up the causes they're coming across. The documentary tied some of these hate web sites to inciting the racial killing in Texas, where three men, followers of the Arian Nation, dragged a black man to death. They followed their brotherhood through books posted on the Web sites of associated groups and took up their cause that way.
