The idea that there are POW's and MIA's still in Vietnam is ridiclous. There is no concrete evidence to make me believe that there is. There has been unsuccessful raids fo suspected POW camps and there were even spy's sent in to find information, yet nothing was found. After all this, after all the unsuccessful attempts at finding evidence of POW's, how can people stil believe that they exist? The answer to this question can be blamed on the American government, the method they used to count the numbers of POW's and MIA's was inconclusive, you couldnt' get the real facts out of there numbers. If the soldiers in the Armed Forces were to see a plane burn up and one of the people on board that plane were to parachute out, eventhough the rest of the soldiers were dead, they would be considered MIA or POW becuase of the one parachuter they couldn't acount for. The United States should have used a different form of keeping count of casualties because it gave peopole in America false hope towards the lives of their loved ones. Another question that popped in my head was, why did the Americans make a big deal about the POW's and MIA's? In WWII and the Korean War, the United States had more POW's and MIA's than in Vietnam, but the U.S. happened to make a bigger it deal over the POW's in Vietnam. The only reason I could find for this act by the U.S. was to give the Vietnamese people a bad name and to fool the American public again. It is just like the Vietnamese War, the U.S. wanted tomake the Vietnamese people look bad. In the war we made it seem like the Vietnamese were the aggressors, so the American public wouldn't complain about our fighting there. Also when the U.S. confronted the MIA situation, it wanted to make the Vientnamese people look like the aggressors again. In order to do so, the U.S. government made people in America think that the Vietnamese people were torturing and keeping captive our American soldiers. In Short, the American government played another trick on the Amercian public, just like they did in the war.
