The "Hue Massacre" became factual due to the American media. It is stated throughout that the massacre has been written so many times, "...the "Hue Massacre" is now mentioned in a virtually reflex action when ever people refer to Hue understandably so, given the number of times the story has been repeated since 1968". The wideley accepted fact is considered a myth. It was a calculated procedure to create a Communist Massacre to justify their actions. "...to justify Diem's refusal to negotiate with Hanoi in preperation for the unheld elections of 1956." (Document 3). It also states that the falsification of the documents was assisted by the U.S. and British intelligence agencies and than passed to various political groups. It was created to make the Communist look like the villians. No one ever saw any real proof of the mass killings. There are several statements througout the documents stating attempts on finding or seeing factual murder sites. "...no western journalist had ever been taken to see the grave sites when the bodies were uncovered". Also states a reporter named Mark Riboud was denied permission to see a site were they claimed the executions of three hundred murders of civilian workers took place. Eventually they allow him to see the site where this event took place. He is taken by helicopter but never lands. The pilot claimed the area was "insecure". Another reason this was so easily mad into a fact was that the documents were all writen in Viatnemese and the American reporters could have accepted any alterations not knowing the difference. The reason the people who believe it is not a fact have problems being heard due to the widespread popularity of the story. Reporters want documents and that is all they need as their proof. Many people believe the government is telling the truth. It is hard to find a person who would believe a few reporters over an entire government especially with "proof". This alone gives Americans enough reason to believe their government is telling the truth.
