Although all the articles that I have read so far lead me to believe that the Americans were monsters when it came to the Vietnam War, I still don't feel that way. Don't get me wrong, I am not saying that everyone of these people were saints, there are always people who make everyone else look bad. I believe that it wasn't that easy to figure out who was the enemy and who wasn't. It was basicly drilled into their head that it is either kill or be killed. It has even been said in one of our readings that when the American troops would give cans of food to the Vietnamese children that a couple of days later, an American soldier would be killed by a land mine made out of that very can. The troops couldn't even trust the Vietnamese children. In short, I don't believe that all the American troops in Vietnam were cold blooded killers, most of them were just trying to stay alive.
