Jen, I agree with you on what you have to say about Colin Powell. He spoke about the war and what happened very desensitized. Unfortunately, the war changed the way many people regarded human life. I have never been in that situation either, nor would I ever want to be. If someone is in a kill-or-be-killed situation, you can not blame them for killing. These soldiers were trained to kill anything they believed to be affiliated with the North Vietnamese enemy. I agree with you that the atrocity of baby killings and mutilations should never have taken place. They did and there is nothing we can do about it now. Although I can never accept or condone the horrible acts, I can understand why they took part in the killings.
