After reading Colin Powells memoirs, I realized that a lot he said had truth in it. Some people believe that the killings could have been stopped, but in actuality you did not know the difference between your enemies and your friends. I agree with his statement about either killing or be killed. No one really knows what happened over there in Vietnam and I think that Colin Powell presents a very important point that many have a tendency to neglect: they were doing some of the same things to us. He tells the story about how one man got killed by sniper fire. Americans tend to look down on our military because of all of the killings and the massacres, but the simple fact is that it was either us or them. Although we probably should not have been over in Vietnam in the first place, we were there and our boys had a job to do. If it meant killing someone over them dying, then that is what they did. A lot of people limit themselves to the idea that America was all wrong, but no one knows what went on over there. Did anyone ever question? We have just recently found out about massacres that went on in Vietnam, but what if there are still unknown massacres that went on involving Vietnamese killing Americans? What if those facts have not been released yet? People always seem to take the side of the Vietnamese, when in actuality they were killing our boys too.
