What people forget is the fact that Vietnam was an unconventional war. The use of kids in wars is not so unusual, especially by guerilla forces. We all know the story of Johnny Tremain, and their have been other young heroes in our Revolutionary War. It is hard to justify the use of children in war, but it is not an uncommon fact to have kids in the field. In the case of atrocities one has to understand that these were unarmed children and babies. It is beyond me on how a baby could actually plant a landmine or shoot a rifle. In war one can either shed his emotion or keep them. What happens when one doesn't shed his emotion is that person getting angrier and more anxious every passing day. Eventually letting that person turn into a monster. The kill or be killed mentality must be used, but only with possible enemies.
