The war was terrible and was in need for desperate measures. I'll agree with you on that. But to shoot at men in their pajamas? How can that make sense. They might be hostile, they might not. What ever happened to not making the first move or not taking the first shot. In baseball, you're not even supposed to swing at the first pitch. The mentality of shooting first and asking questions later seems to be predominant in the Vietnam war.
I am in no way a "peacenik" but I do believe that there is right and wrong, even in war. Where is the sense of shooting at someone to find out if they are "friendly" or not? True, desperate times call for desperate measures, but human life should not be such a toss up. By saying okay, I'm going to shoot at this guy in his pajamas and if he runs, I'll just kill him, sounds like some sick target practice. I don't understand how this can be justified, even under the circumstances.
