The Vietnam War did not only kill soldiers and civilians but it also killed and contaminated crops and the water supply. Powell states in his second extract, "what difference did it make if you shot your enemy or starved him to death?" However, I believe that it does matter and that it does make a difference. What is obvious is that not only did this destruction kill the enemy but it also contributed to killing the people the United States came over to supposedly save. As the world has learned from the effects of Agent Orange, chemicals can cause damage that consists of both short and long term effects that really aren't worth the usage. It takes a very long process for both crops and water to rejuvenate and cleanse themselves back to the way they used to be. Crops may no longer be able to grow in the same spot again, thus ruining and wasting land. Water is the primary source of survival for everyone and by contaminating that you automatically kill many people while also endangering the environment.
