I think the quotes in the beginning of this article tell the tale of how American Capitalists feal about our forign relations with Southeast Asia. Our purpose is to exploit the people for low wages, rape their land for raw materials, and turn the area into an investment outlet for other capitalists.
I also find it interesting that only 0.5% of the american public dominate the U.S. economy. With close to 120 billion dollars in assets and investments abroad it really makes you wonder who is bennifiting from all this plunder. Well although the working class are the people financing all this imperialism, we sure the hell are not seeing any of the profits. The masses of working class are like the proletareits in Orwells 1984. If we only understood our real power over this 0.5%, things might just be different.
If one says that Capitalism can exist without imperialism thwy are a fool. The biggest U.S. companies get about half their profits from outside the U.S. I would say that if the capitalists enjoy these profits like we know they do, Imperialism is not going anywhere, in fact it will continue to grow.
I was also shocked to learn that the U.S. controlled so much of the Canadian economy. So it just goes to show that the U.S. has its greedy little mitts in not only underdeveloped countries but also developed ones like Canada.
Like i said in class, imperialism is a slap in the face of Americans. We are the ones funding it with taxes, and lives, yet the fat cats who own million dollar compounds in the Hamptons, are the ones who bennifit. Also the profits mades by cheap wages are not passed on to the consumer. Thats not cool!!!
