So many arguments can be presented in the question of America and its imperialistic practices. The most prevalent area to explore is the one that we as Americans are affected with the most. Yes, we are Americans, and even if only in some distorted reality, so are the capitalists. We do hope for economic success. We all in some ways have benefited from our capitalists forefathers. The attitude is, ‘I may not be as wealthy as the next man but I do hold some stature in our society.’ We are able to control our own financial destiny to some extent. (After all I find it hard to believe that any of us know what the true meaning of suffering is.)

Then there are the capitalists. They exploit workers, resources, and morals of the "poor" countries, but also in ways of our own country. The ideology of the true capitalist is ultimate profit. But the question has to be, At what cost? If the rulers of our country continue to dismiss the consequences of this overwhelming profit it seems inevitable our economy will only fall through at the bottom. The analogy is, if we continue to chew up and spit out the resources in these "poor" countries, ultimately what will be left. In the long run we will have depleted the entire world of its gifts and have nothing left to take. This is a scary concept for everyone.

It is time for Americans to start worrying about America, not solely the girth of their wallets. We supposedly aid less fortunate countries with economic struggles, but what about the struggles of the American working man? What about our needy, hungry, and unemployed? These seem to be of little concern to our government and the men siting in power. We are depleting our people of their rights to pursue their own success. If there are no jobs available how is America the land of opportunity? Democracy enables all people with free will to achieve. We are stripping our country of its opportunity in the name of benefiting the less fortunate "Third World" nations. I could almost understand if not condone this if it were the case. These countries' people are not asking us to interfere with their ways of living. They are not looking to be taken over by American industry. They do not posses the skills to function in an industrialized society. They are farmers and peasants. Their concerns are producing crops to feed their people, not sneakers to sell to Americans for the purpose of thriving corporations. It is unfortunate that we have driven these people to such dispair. If you take away their tools for living it gives them no choice but to participate in the ways of the white corporate American. Now more than ever I see the importance of supporting American based companies. Buy their products stimulate jobs among our people…the working class.
