Capitalism is a blueprint. Just as carpenters use a plan or a blueprint to build a house, capitalism is a blueprint by which a particular economic system is created for a society. Blueprints are subjective. They can be altered or deviated from by whomever is using them, and capitalism is by no means exempt from this treatment. The blueprints of capitalism will only work towards a just society if those who use them exercise within the framework of morality. When morality is removed from the picture, capitalism takes on another dimension. Without morality there is no check and balance for the system. Thus, the wretched monsters of child-labor, unemployment among peasants, and the total disregard for the land of Third world countries rear their heads.
Just as capitalism requires the element of morality to be practiced by those who are using its blueprints, so do the blueprints of imperialism. Imperialism is not bad in and of itself. There is nothing wrong with setting up businesses in Third World countries, and employing the people of those countries to work in your businesses. The problem arises when one removes the element of morality from imperialism; and in so doing begins to steal the land and enslave the people with cheap wages.
This brings us to the article assigned for Friday. On page five, beginning of the second paragraph, it says, "Racism is the political expression of imperialism". This statement seems to suggest that racism is a direct product of imperialism. In other words, once one adopts the practice of imperialism, he will inevitably begin to practice racism. But as stated before there is nothing wrong with the actual concept of imperialism. It is not imperialism that creates racism; rather it is those who are using the blueprints of imperialism. By removing morality from the picture the imperialist (a global capitalist) can indiscriminately implement whatever means (e.g. racism) necessary to achieve his goals.
Another point to consider is the affects of evolutionary thought in the whole matter of imperialism. Just as the removal of morality has been a factor in creating the modern day brand of imperialism, evolution has played an equally important role. Evolution supports and encourages the concept of racism. "Evolution suggests that all life evolved from one single-celled organism, and that superior life forms evolved as groups within and among other species, adapting better than others to their environments. The ability to adapt and advance where others fail is equivalent to superiority (from Darwinism Promotes Racist Ideas, by Dan Singleton)." Thus some humans have learned to adapt better then others, and therefore some humans are superior to others (racism).
Now to sum the matter up, if you leave morality out of the picture and you adopt the logical progression of racism within evolutionary thought, you are able to completely distort the blue prints of both capitalism and imperialism, which is exactly what we see today.
