When I think of the word imperialism, the first thing that comes to mind is the word exploitation. A major part of the imperialist system of going about things is exploiting "poor" countries of their cheap labor and of their natural resources.
The unjust tactics of becoming economically successful the US uses never cease to amaze me. We move into countries that have these valuable resources and have no idea what to use them for other than trade. The US being this super-power sees an opportunity to use their reputation of being this super power and take a country's resources. In return we give this country our "aid", when really we are the first to turn around and use them in other ways.
The US sees a poor country and they se the opportunity to open factories in this foreign land and use the people as a source of cheap labor. The people have no choice. These factories open up jobs for these people that weren't there before. So they obtain these jobs, work horrendous hours, and get paid beans.
From reading about the imperialists tactics and how the US uses these tactics, I would probably think twice before ever negotiation business with our great country.
