There are some good points raised here on the issue of how racism plays a part in imperialism. My view however, is that racism creates imperialist actions. The US and other superpower nations seem to prey on countries of different ethnic backgrounds. As professor Furr stated in class, the Nazi's of WWII did not discriminate or butcher the French. They were treated with a level of respect, where as the Slav's were a different race, and occupied because of their race. Sure the power of the country itself plays a part, but I think racism has a lot to do with it, just look at what happened to the Vietnamese by the US government. That raises an important question, would the French and US have occupied and dominated over the Vietnamese people's if they were of US or French origin? At least I don't believe as many lives would have been lost in the proceess of supposedly trying to eliminate communism.
