Long ago, when nations or at least people fought wars, slavery was a way of life. The winning side would often end up with prisoners of war, who would be forced into slavery. When one side conquered another, the conquered side would have its people forced into slavery or oppressed by their new rulers. What was so different from the way we envision slavery today is that long ago, these were normally large families or clans that were warring with one another. Most times both sides belonged to one race.
What it all comes down to is difference. One side had one patriarch, the other had its own. Everyone largely looked similar, without such an obvious difference as color of skin. this is an idea that the white man, a.k.a. the "gringo," made popular. If Hitler was successful in subduing the rest of Europe in World War II, the French and English would not be in such bad shape because these are Germanic people. In other words, they shared a common blood history with the Germans. The Poles, the Russians and the other "lesser" people of Europe and the rest of the world would not have been so lucky.
So what does all of this mean? We profess that we are so much better than Hitler and his cronies, yet we exist in and perpetuate a racist society. We fight wars with people of skin that is not as alabaster as ours largely is. Our way is the right way, and if you coloreds do not agree, we will bomb you back to the stone age, or roughly two weeks ago. The people of East Timor and Indonesia are under our thumb. Why do you think they are called "slave wages?" Nike is the whipmaster, and we own the plantation.
