I am not totally sure if I agree with you completly about the war in Vietnam. TO say that the only reason why the US was over there was for purely economical reasons is to not try to look beyond what we are presented here in this class.
I don't think that the US belonged in Vietnam. Not for communism. I do feel that there were some economic reasons for US involvement there, but they were not the principal reasons.
First of all, we must understand that nothing is ever clear cut or as simple as one answer. The US was trying to rid the world of communism at whatever cost. THis was not a noble cause in itself, but the US felt that it was. Actually, I don't honestly think that the US government really cared to bother with nobility. These were sub-human people and they had to be fixed, or so the "fighters for democracy and freedom" would have us believe.
If we must look at America, we must look at it as a multi-faceted monster that we feed with our tax dollars and ignorance. It is a capitalist creature, but i hope that capitalism is not its only driving force.
