Lori wrote a very relevant and thought-provoking paper. I agree that we have all, as Americans, benefited from capitalism. Our forefathers and ancestors probably all had a hand in the industrial revolution and factory working. The problem arises when you put hard working americans out of work for higher profits in third world countries. We are exploiting foreign labor but at the same time we are paying them with american dollars. As Lori pointed out, these countries did not ask us to come over and pollute their country or industrialize it. They did not ask to fall prey to the same shallow, empty society we call our own. We took away their way of life so of course they have no choice but to become Americanized. This enters into another realm, if we continue to use up all the resources we can lay our hands on then there will be nothing left, for us or the country we are stealing them from. We have not respected these countries' way of life nor have we taken a good look at our own problems and tried to fix them. We have unemployment here not to mention homelessness and starving dying children. We need to stop butting our way into other people's way of life and start looking critically at our own.
