I too was fascinated about what Mr. Chitty had to say about the war. However, in light of what was said and what we've read and heard about the atrocity that occured in Vietnam, I was not at all surprised to learn that Mr. Chitty had joined V.V.A.W. immediately after returning to the States. Much, if not most, of what Mr. Chitty had to say about the war was shocking. But perhaps most shocking was the fact that the US tripled the American troop presence well after they were made aware that the war was unwinnable. His description of American horrifying war tactics during the war such as the offshore bombing of civilian terrain and the common practice of using US members of the infantry as bait create a totally diferent perspective of what the war was really like as compared with the blood and glory Hollywood images. Mr. Chitty also offered valuable insight as to how the war never truly ended. In light of what Mr. Chitty had to say, the mutinous acts committed by members of the US armed forces become more understandable, even somewhat justifiable. I too found Mr. Chitty's willingness to go back to the hell of Vietnam to be remarkably courageous and honorable. His effort to aid young men to dodge the draft was also admirable, courageous, and honorable.
