Many people have misconceptions about the Vietnam War due to movies, opinions, and propaganda. Ben Chitty tried to dispell some of those misconceptions with his views of the war which came from first hand experience. I personally thought that the whole experience was great. Many of the issues that we have read about and discussed in class he also talked about. It was great to hear the opinion of someone who was actually in the war. It really makes you believe in many of the articles we have read. He is living proof that the war was a terrible thing that should never have happened. He brought emotion and insight that thusfar has been abscent in the class. It was a very valuable experience that helped me to further understand the governments position in southeast Asia. One point that really had an emotional effect on me was how the grunts were basically bait. Its completly appaling that the military would employ such practices. The men drafted were nothing more than an body to shoot a gun at people we should have truely been helping. Its no wonder soliders were killing their officers. Can yo blame then? I sure as hell dont think so.
