Mr. Iansito poses a good point in saying that Mr. Chitty “is unable to view events in the same light and with the same language that is fed to the general public through the mass media.” But why is it necessary for a U.S citizen to undergo such traumatic experiences to understand that the government is not as truthful as they promise to be. I think that if we learned anything in this class it is that the government should never be trusted. But do you recall that in the beginning of the semester the entire class refused to grasp this same fact. For example they dismissed the incident in South East Asia (i.e. sweatshops) as a minor flaw in the US government. Many of them refused to believe that Cuba and Iraq were actually more innocent than the great government. I guess what I am trying to say is that most of the class is made up of nothing more than a bunch of conformists. They conformed to the popular belied that America was good throughout there whole lives until this class and then conformed to the small percentage of the class which believed that America was wrong when they saw that it was most profitable for them to do so. I am not saying that this is a bad thing or that this is the case for everybody. A lot of people have adopted more liberal views not through force but by filtering information through themselves (i.e. Dan Xavier). I hope that this class goes on to question the true validity of the governments so-called truths and does not fall victim to the venomous disease of conformity.
