After seriously thinking about the issue of draft dodgers, I have to agree with Ms. Schimpf on the idea that Mr. Chitty's work with draft dodgers wasn't "admirable, courageous, and honorable." Personally, I still believe that one should serve their country with their heart and soul when called upon in times of war. This country was built on tradition, values, and freedom which shouldn't be disregarded when your country needs you for combat. It's one thing to not be suited for combat due to health or educational reasons, but to dodge the draft in any way, shape or form is not an admirable thing to do. Where would the United States be if George Washington and other great leaders dodged the draft to avoid fighting in combat? In my opinion, our forefathers have laid the foundation of sacrificing their lives for the sake of their country and should be forever remembered for their courageous efforts. I was in total approval of Ben Chitty's participation in starting an anti-war movement against the Vietnam War to further gain the attention of the American public on the atrocities of this combat. Unfortunately, I wasn't at all content on learning that he taught people how to dodge the draft. In conclusion, his work on helping out draft dodgers truly diminished the spirit of our forefathers' dream of fighting for your country.
