There are way too many things to write about these last few posts to fit in this small space, but there are two major points that I wish to speak to. First of all, why should Mr. Chitty not vote or work for a government-funded college? I feel, and I'm surprised Ms. Podvesker feels otherwise, one of the basic tenets ofour society is that an individual can make a difference. Mr. Chitty obviously subscribes to this attitude, as is evident in his work to aid draft dodgers. If everyone in this country were to say, fuck it, I can't make a difference, then the true tragedy of indiffernce would be seen. Change is only made if a lot of people decide to use their voices, and it is unfortunate that too many of us do not do so. To speak to the issue of a conformist in the classroom, I am kind of disgusted at what Mr. Hazim had to say. One of the purposes of getting an education is to learn to look at issues in a way that you never have before. To say that everyone had one opinion and then merely did a 180 and changed their viewpoint is not only ridiculous but incorrect. Attitudes and finger pointing is a reason that people are not as open minded and willing to change their opinions as often as they should. I thought that one of the benefits of living in this "free" world is having the freedom to change our minds and use information received to adjust previously held conceptions. People like you who want to insult others by calling them conformists are worse than those who sit back and refuse to even look at other possible viewpoints . At least the people in this class have had a different viewpoint handed to them and can use it to adjust thier ways of thinking. Unfortunately, issues like that of the Vietnam War are not merely black and white as you seem to feel they should be.
