Lisa, I agree with your thoughts. I also really admire Mr. Chitty for going back on a second tour. The fact that he went to the war voluntarily and then back again really shows me that something horrible must have been happening during the war to change his opinion of the war and of the United States government. The fact that so many people died during the war shows me that the war was unwinnable. The selfishness of the government to keep the people in the war was unbelieveable. The fact that Mr. Chitty joined the Vietnam Veterans Against the War so quickly, in my opinion, was because he saw from early on that something atrocious was happening and he felt he had to do something to stop it. He said that from early on he knew we weren't going to win the war and that he didn't understand why the government wasn't telling the truth about it to the people. The truth is that the government was selfish and I think Mr. Chitty found that out early enough to get out and to get involved in an organization to help stop further corruption. Also, like you said, Mr. Chitty said that people are getting tired of hearing about the war. Many references to our government can be seen through the war and the fact that it has remained alive shows so much about our civilization and it gives us insights into the future and into the past. It gives us insights and information on our government and the workings of our government. i think it is funny that people are getting tired of the war, because so much can be learned from it.
