Guidelines: Reading and Writing Assignments

(Adopted March 1st, 2006)

 

 

200-level Courses

1.    Reading: 1100-1500 total pages                     

     (i.e., on average 75-100 pages per week)

 

2.    Writing: At least one significant writing assignment of between 5-7 pages in length (i.e., c 1250-2000 words)

 

 

300-level Courses

1.    Reading: 1500-2250 total pages 

     (i.e., on average 100-150 pages per week)

 

2.    Writing: At least one significant writing assignment of between 7-10 pages in length (i.e., c 1750-3000 words)

 

 

400-level Courses

1.    Reading: 1500-3000 total pages  

     (i.e., on average 100-200 per week)

 

2.    Writing: At least one significant writing assignment of between 8-12 pages in length (i.e., c 2500-3500 words)

 

 

Two Additional Guideline Notes

1.    Exams: The final course grade for any 200-, 300-, and 400-level courses should not be based solely on in-class exams

 

2.    Writing Assignments: The specific nature of all significant writing assignments should be the professor’s discretion
