POST-BACCALAUREATE CERTIFICATION PROGRAM IN SOCIAL STUDIES

FOR GEOGRAPHY MAJORS

1.	Liberal Arts Major in Geography Must include One course in world geography One course in urban geography EUGS 312 Historical Geography of the U.S. or equivalent Any two courses at 300 level or above (500 for M.A.T. candidates)	36 s.h.
2.	Course Work in Related Social Sciences* History (18 s.h.) Two courses in U.S. history One course in European history One course in non-western history One course in history of Black Americans One course in history of women Anthropology or Sociology (3 s.h.) ANTH 110 Anthropology of Multicultural America or equivalent OR SOCI 202 Racial and Ethnic Relations or equivalent Economics (3 s.h.) ECON 100 Introduction to Economics, ECON 101 Macro-Economics OR ECON 215 Economics of Social Problems Political Science (3 s.h.) One course in American political thought or American political systems Religion (3 s.h.) One course in religions of the world *NOTE: History and Social Science courses completed with grades of C or higher prior to entering this program will be accepted. The number of credits in each area will be correspondingly reduced; remaining courses will be determined after evaluation of student’s academic record.
3.	Professional Education Sequence Sequence leading to Certification only – See Graduate catalog Sequence leading to M.A.T. and Certification – See Graduate catalog Professional education courses to be determined by Academic Advisor in Center of Pedagogy. Includes SOSC 401 – Methods of Teaching Social Studies. Do not take until semester immediately prior to Student Teaching, concurrently with CURR 500 – Fieldwork in Education.
