The graduate assistantships offered in the department of Psychology are very competitive.  We are fortunate to have procured ten positions for our students.

Our assistantship program is different from others in that we hold our assistants in the regard that doctoral fellows would be held.  Being a graduate assistant in our department is essentially being a research assistant.  Graduate assistants are assigned to work with faculty who are conducting research for journal articles, books, presentations, etc.  The graduate assistants work with their assigned faculty member(s) on these projects with the intention of publication and presentation at local and national conferences.  It is the department's expectations that the graduate assistants get published and make presentations at such conferences.

Being a graduate assistant in the department of Psychology is an amazing opportunity for students who wish to further their education into the doctoral level.  Having publications to send with doctoral applications makes students much more competitive than those who have not conducted research or published material.

Graduate assistantships are awarded prior to the beginning of each academic year.  Students may apply for an assistantship through the Graduate School.  Applications are reviewed in the Graduate School and then forwarded to a panel of faculty in the department of Psychology for review.  The panel selects students to interview for the open positions and then recommendations are made to the Graduate School for the final selection.  The Graduate School will notify the students who have been awarded the assistantships.

If you are interested in obtaining general information on how to apply for a graduate assistantship, please refer to The Office of Graduate Studies website.  If you have specific questions about the graduate assistantships in Psychology, please contact Dr. Julian Keenan at 973-655-7634.
